La Via Campesina is the regional network

ARNA – La Via Campesina is the regional network of La Via Campesina in the Arab and North Africa region, bringing together farmers’ organizations, rural communities, agricultural workers, women, youth, and indigenous peoples committed to defending the rights of peasants and promoting food sovereignty. We work to strengthen sustainable agriculture, social justice, environmental protection, and the dignity of rural communities through solidarity, advocacy, and collective action. Our mission is to empower local communities, protect natural resources, and build resilient food systems based on equality, cooperation, and respect for human rights.

Our Mission

To unite and strengthen peasant and small-farmer movements across the Arab region in the struggle for food sovereignty, farmers’ rights, sustainable agriculture, and social justice. The network seeks to amplify farmers’ voices, promote equitable access to land and natural resources, defend traditional and local farming systems, and build solidarity and collective action among rural communities. It works toward a just and resilient food system that puts farmers, workers, and local communities at its center.

Our Vision

A food-sovereign Arab world where peasants, small farmers, and rural communities live with dignity, justice, and equality, exercise collective control over their land, seeds, water, and food systems, and play a central role in shaping sustainable and resilient agricultural policies. A region where food systems are rooted in local communities, protect natural resources and traditional knowledge, uphold farmers’ rights, and ensure that everyone has access to healthy, safe, and culturally appropriate food.
